Dean Collins in “Let’s Make Music” (1941)

Bob Crosby (1913-1993) – the brother to popular singer and multi-talented star Bing Crosby (1903-1977) – plays, while Dean Collins swings it, here in the movie “Let’s Make Music” (1941). This was Collin’s first choreography and appearance in a Hollywood Movie – the first in a long series, making him one of the most filmed Lindy Hoppers in Hollywood. The Hollywood style of swing differed from the Savoy style in that the girls did a more backward pull in the twist, and the dancers focused a lot on nifty footwork in a more upright position, though in this film, Collin’s debt to the dance learnt at the Savoy showed in his posture still.

Swing by the Flyer

Feb 23 marks the last weekly social dance event Swing by House@Dempsey. It is also the official SEA JAM post-party, so come on down and play with us there, and of course, at the other SEA JAM parties as well (see swingapore.com/seajam for details) where I’ll be dancing and DJ-ing at!
We’re sad to say goodbye to Swing by House@Dempsey, for we’ve had quite a few good swingouts there over the past 4 months. BUT, the good news is, JAZZ INC willl still have out weekly swingouts, but this time, at LOVE THE WORLD cafe at the SINGAPORE FLYER (30 Raffles Avenue, Singapore Flyer, #02-05)! We’re gonna swing out EVERY MONDAY starting 2nd March, at 8pm for free taster classes, and social dancing after till 1030pm. Come and support the venue, so that they’ll continue to have us beyond March!
