Blues Workshops — Get Your Blues On
Cost: $32/clsss, $60 for both
Where: JMDC Studio, Suntec City, #03-13 (Near Toys R Us, in the alcove), 730-9pm
In recent years, blues dancing has become popular with Lindyhoppers and social dancers worldwide. Like most swing dances, blues is rooted deeply in early African American culture. The key to this unique dance is a focus on improvisation and connection with your partner and the music.
In these workshops, we will learn connection and improvisation techniques and concepts such as simplicity, subtlety, clarity, creativity, intensity, body control and isolation, listening, and musical interpretation. The connections among these concepts are critical to advanced social dancing and will greatly improve your Lindy Hop (and make it a lot more fun, as well).
We will start from blues movement basics and dive as deep as we can into the world of blues. Come prepared to move your body in ways you’ve never done before and don’t be surprised if your core muscles are pleasantly sore after the workshop!
