Hanna Zetterman, Mattias Lundmark & Sakarias Larsson performing a Charleston routine

11 October, 2009 · 1 Comment

One of the best Swing dance performers in the world and dear friends seen here doing a Charleston routine.  They give 200% of themselves each time they perform.  And I was priviledged to have had the opportunity to be at some of their rehearsals at Chicago studio, and Bagis Folkets Hus (best neighbourhood in Stockholm!!), and even at a T-banan station (while they rehearsed for Talang!), and it was amazing watching them rehearse. It is always at least 110% when they run through.  I spoke to Hanna and Mattias about the secret of their performance, and they said that it was all about wanting to be the best dancer, about healthy competition between team-mates, and the desire to want to improve each time.  And it shows. Miss you guys, and see you real soon!

GAP Swing Commercial

This commercial in 1998 with the song “Jump Jive and Wail” helped to bring Swing dancing to national attention in the midst of the revivial… which was already in full swing (it was part of a series of GAP ads that featured dancing). Unfortunately, it displays very little actual Lindy Hopping (and what little of it was badly executed… and what on earth was that high kick towards the end??), and perpetuated the image and impression that it was all about the aerials.  To me, it had an unfortunate choice of a song that doesn’t swing as well.  Nevertheless, I thought it necessary to know what the GAP ad that many people referred to was, when people talk about the revival of Swing…
