Swing-out Korean Style,10^th Dec, 330-630pm@JMDC Suntec City

Swing by for a special workshop where Ashley Choi will share her knowledge and experience teaching in Korea to the Singapore, with Sinclair Ang assisting.  The workshop will be split up into two segments:

330-5pm: Fundamentals – This class will focus on the fundamentals of connection and partner-work and help you achieve a sense of satisfaction dancing with your partner, as well as explore the finer points of lead and follow.

5-630pm: Play Time – This class will help you play with variations and styling within your partner-work without losing that connection with your partner.

The Lindy Drill

11^th Dec, 230-430pm@Popstars City, Millenia walk

This is a special workshop where some variations will be taught, and levels of difficulty will be added to them, and then, it’s practice, practice, practice!  The practice session will help you get comfortable with the variations taught, with the help of several teachers at the session, including Brian Ang, Ashley Choi, and Sinclair Ang, who will also give some personal attention to your dancing.

Monday (TBC)@JMDC Studio (Suntec), $28 

You have seen LMFAO and their crew do it, now swing by and learn the REAL ORIGINAL SHUFFLE, called the CHARLESTON, done in the 1920s, that forms the basis of quite a few of the moves from the Party Rock Charleston video, as well as some hip hop moves you see these days. Of course we’ll use the song to Charleston to. No experience or partner needed!

(2 – 330pm) Zero to Hero Workshop

Here’s your (friends’) chance to be learn how to swing dance in 1 afternoon – it’s fun and it’s easy enough, and a definite work-out. If you’ve friends who have always been keen but never really had the time or have never been convinced enough to pay for a full course, here’s your chance to introduce the dance to them – better yet, join them in the class!   This class will be taught by Brian, Stephanie and Sinclair.

(330pm-415pm) Swingtroduction

A presentation of what swing dancing is through videos, music, and demo.  Great for beginners and veteran dancers alike, who would like to learn more about Swing Dancing through its history, music, and people.

(415 – 6pm)   A Perspective on the Basis of Jazz Dancing: a practice session:

Herrang scholars Brian and Sinclair will share a particular approach to the basis of jazz dancing whether in solo or partner connection that they’ve experienced in Herrang.  This isn’t a class as much as it is a sharing and practice session.  They will talk about technique by way of the pulse, consistency, and body movement, and work on these aspects in your solo jazz or partnered lindy hop.

Swing & Charleston Beginners Courses@Bellini Room
Every Tues (starts 18 Oct, 6 weeks): 7:30 – 9:00pm,
Cost: $160/course

This beginners series will teach beginners the basics of this 6-count Swing & the 1930s Charleston, focusing on partner connection and communication, in addition to a series of moves from both types Swing dances that will get you groovin to any swing jazz tunes! This course is compatible with Lindy Hop Beginners. No experience or partner needed to sign up. Sign up with 2 other friends (of different genders), and get a 10% discount for all 3 of you as well. There will be social dancing after class each week to DJ music and a live band!

Finally, a Blues for Beginners, headed by Siva and Jo, Blues King and Queen of Singapore. This series will teach you the building blocks of Blues dancing, so that you can tackle the music that goes way down slow.   In addition to teaching traditional steps like the Strut and the Fishtail, Siva and Jo will also focus on the quality of movement with body isolations and get into details with lead and follow technique as well.  NO EXPERIENCE OR PARTNER needed. MINI-SERIES: THE BIG APPLE
Every Monday (starts 4 July, ends 18 July): 7:30 – 9:00pm,
Cost: $85 ($30/class) 

This mini-series will teach you Frankie Manning’s choreography of the Big Apple as seen in the movie Keep Punching.  Each week will focus on the different segments, so swing by for any or all of the classes! Guaranteed a good workout, and a great way to have fun with your solo jazz.  Some basic knowledge of Jazz steps required

Lindy Hop: Technique and Moves (Beginner-Intermediate and up)
Every Wed : 7:30 – 9:00pm,
Cost: $160/6 classes, $30/class

This series will teach the finer points of connection between partner, as well as some figures that are useful on any dance floor, and even in a jam circle. The current focus is on faster lindy technique as well as footwork variations. Particular emphaisis is on leading and following these moves.  No partner needed but knowledge of Lindy Hop, Charleston, and 6-count swing is needed to sign up.

MINI-SERIES: SOLO CHARLESTON
Wed 27/7, 3/8 : 7:30 – 9:00pm,
Cost: $55/2 classes, $30/class

This mini-series will focus on solo Charleston taught by Kalai.  It will focus on the moves as well as the styling of these moves to help you express the joy of Dixie and Trad Jazz, as well as make you look great doing them!  The 2nd class will have a short choreo added to it as well. No experience needed!
